FRENCH CENTER

FRANÇAIS

At the end of March, 1990, in cooperation with the provincial French Adult Education, a French Center is founded in Domremy. Laurent Gaudet's house is rented for its use. Jeanne Gaudet and Léonette Fortier are the first French adult instructors. More then 30 adults followed French classes during that first year.

At the end of 1990, it was decided by the community to promote French through a French community Center with social and cultural activities along with the French instructions.

In November, 1991, the French Community Center moved into empty classrooms at the Domremy School.

The first president of the organization was Lilianne Melnyk, followed by Lucille Georget; in 1993, Irene Rabu was elected president for a two year term.

The French Center in Domremy is active throughout the year, offering a summer day camp, arts and craft sessions and various cultural and social activities.
